Who is Doodle, you ask? Doodle is one of the four lambs (sheep) who make up the McLamby family. He lives in the Northern Highlands of Scotland, and this is his blog. That's right; life from a lamb's point of view. Doodle, and his brother Snowball, were orphaned lambs and raised on bottles...first in the garage and backyard of their people ("Dad" and "Mom")...then out in the big field with their "Uncles" Rosebud and Shermy, two big Cheviot sheep who are also...er...pet sheep. Sometimes it's just fine for someone to have no other purpose in life but to live and be one of God's creatures. That's Doodle, Snowball, Rosebud, and Shermy. Welcome to their world!

More Exploring

We went outside for a walk today!  It was fun.
Shermy and Snowball took right off and investigated everything.
We visited the neighbors.
Uncle Rosebud is showing off, sticking to the lane.  But he and Shermy went around back as soon as no one was looking.  I thought I had found a candy bush, but Dad says it wasn't, and that I should not eat the neighbor's plants.  I'm not sure why, but I'm a good Doodle, so I won't.
When Mom and Dad turned over our trough and we heard the kibble pail, we all came straight back in to our new field.  We're all good guys in the McLamby flock!

Greener Pastures

So after we got to our new field, it was nice to know Mom was nearby.  I'm still only little, after all.
But pretty soon, it was easy to to go off eating...er, exploring.  I think Mom must be making a baby book or something.  She always has a camera.
And look!  Our feed pail was close by.  I told Snowball to create a diversion.  He's usually good a making a ruckus.  Oh well.  He just stood there, and I couldn't reach the pail, anyway.  I would have shared!
Hey, what's everyone looking at?
It's Dad!  I think he had better seats than that bus thing we rode on.  We didn't even HAVE seats.  Bye bye, Dad!
We were all pretty glad when Dad took the bus thing away and we didn't have to ride in it anymore.  We listened, and we could hear it rumbling away for a long time.  It's much nicer outside it!
When the rumbly noise stopped, we all started to settle in.  It's like a big smorgasbord for lambies!
I think Mom and Dad will be coming up this road when they feed us every day.  They always bring cookies, too!
It's a lot for a little lamb to think about.  This is my biggest adventure ever.  So far.  Someone said I traveled almost 3 miles.  I don't know how far that is, but I'm glad I'm home now.

We Went For a Ride

Today was such an adventure!  First, we all came into a tiny fenced area and got kibbles and cookies ~ early!  Uncle Bud was not sure he wanted to do this, but he couldn't resist when he saw the rest of us getting snacks.
But then, before we knew what was happening, Uncle Bud and Uncle Shermy walked up this ramp, and our people made us follow, and we got closed in this box with skinny windows.  Dad said we were going on a bus ride, but I don't think we did.  There weren't even any seats.  Snowball (who should be called SnowBAWL) baa-ed the whole entire time, which was at least 50 days (but Dad says it was only about 15 minutes).  Snowbawl's baaing scared me, and so I baaed, too.
The next thing we knew, our bus was backed up to this great open door, and we were welcomed into a whole new field...no other occupants, and nobody else's, er, poo.
Here we are, getting out of our limo...er, bus...er, big metal box thing.  They drove us right up to the door!
Shermy found the dead nettles (one of our favorite snacks) right away, so we all followed his lead and discovered there was a lot to eat.  Not only that, but we got more cookies and kibbles.  The bus went away, and we did not have to get in it again.  I think we are living here now.  I will tell you more about it tomorrow.  I need a nap.

Something's Up

Something's up.  We don't know what, but Mom and Dad (our people) are acting sorta funny.  The Curmudgeon isn't so sure, but the rest of us want to know the scoop.  Me...I hope we're gonna blow this joint soon.  Maybe I'll find out tomorrow.  As long as they keep bringing us cookies, it's all good.

Orphan Lambs

This is what it looks like to be orphan lambs...or as some call us, bottle lambs.  It's pretty scary.  We were only 2 days old when this photo was taken.  Snowball and I are awfully glad some people who love lambs came and took us home.  This was our first little pen.  We outgrew it pretty quickly!  (Don't you think Snowball looks like he's wearing a diaper? ~ don't tell him I said that ~).

Does My Nose Look Big Like This?

Everyone thinks Snowball has a pointy nose.  He still likes to come up to his people and poke them with his pointy nose.  He is hoping a milk bottle will appear from somewhere.  When it doesn't, then Snowball just rubs his face against his people and waits for a scritch.  Sometimes, it's hard to grow up without your real Mom and Dad.  Like late at night, when we want to lie down next to a great big mommy sheep... but we can't.  Oh well.  At least there's Uncle Rosebud and Uncle Shermy...and best of all, our people who bring us cookies!

What In the World Are These?

When we met Uncle Bud ~ that is, The Curmudgeon ~ he still had his winter coat!  It was kind of scary.  He was ginormous!  He came right up to us and said, "What in the world are these?"  That's when we discovered we could run and jump much faster than Uncle Bud.  We're all better friends now.  The funny thing is, the bigger I get, the better friends we become.

Part 4 ~ The "Doodle" of Doodle and Co

It's me...Doodle.  Officially, I am Snickerdoodle McLamby (plus a whole long string of nicknames).  But as I am growing up, I am turning into Just Plain Doodle.  I was born on May 8, 2013, and came home to my people on May 10.  Right after I was born, I got really sick.  But my people wrapped me in towels and held me and gave me medicine...and used diaper rash ointment and baby wipes on my bottom (kind of embarrassing)...and sang me songs.  I am told there was lots of talking to the vet (I have not actually met a "vet" yet, so I'm not sure what that is), and I drank of lot of juice for a few weeks (someone said "electrolytes" but I don't know what those are, either).  Now, I am a big, stocky boy (NO! It is NOT from too many cookies!).  I have very distinctive markings on my face, polka dots on my legs, and a very fat tail!  I have lots more to say...so keep stopping by!

Doodle's "Co" ~ Part 3

Snowball thinks he is the cutest.  Okay, it's true he is pretty cute.  Wonder how he got such soft wool?  He feels like a stuffed animal toy!  He baaaas pretty loud when he wants something.  He also has a very pointy nose.  When he was littler, he would jam his pointy nose at my people whenever he wanted a milk bottle...which was often.  Snowball is more streamlined than I am.  He runs like a Rocket.  He likes to jump straight up in the air when he is happy, too.  And his pointy nose means he can clean up the feed trough when the rest of us think it's empty.  Snowball is my half brother, and he joined the family when I did.  They said he was an Easy-Care, but we think he is Lleyn, or at least partly.  He's pretty easy to steal a cookie from...er, I mean, it's easy to eat the cookies Snowball hasn't eaten yet.  We're best friends!

Doodle and Co ~ the "Co", Part 2

This handsome chap is Shermy.  He's half North Country Cheviot and half Shetland.  He is 3 years old, and he came to live with Uncle Rosebud...er, Bud...in 2010.  He tends to have bug-eyes when he gets alarmed.  When we first came to live with the Uncles, Shermy was kind of stand-offish.  He didn't like us much.  I think he was jealous.  But then...one day, he had a breakthrough, and he discovered how much fun it is to get petted and squished and hugged and cooed over.  Now he gets lots of squishing and hugging, too.  I don't mind.  If I want a turn, I just push Uncle Shermy out of the way with my big Doodle head!

Meet the Co, Part 1

This is Rosebud.  He started it all.  And he prefers to be called "Bud".  He isn't sure why he got landed with a name like Rosebud.  He was born in 2008, and he had a rough first year.  His people almost lost him.  He's healthy and happy now, though.  He's also not sure why everyone refers to him as "The Curmudgeon".  He doesn't even know what that is.
