Who is Doodle, you ask? Doodle is one of the four lambs (sheep) who make up the McLamby family. He lives in the Northern Highlands of Scotland, and this is his blog. That's right; life from a lamb's point of view. Doodle, and his brother Snowball, were orphaned lambs and raised on bottles...first in the garage and backyard of their people ("Dad" and "Mom")...then out in the big field with their "Uncles" Rosebud and Shermy, two big Cheviot sheep who are also...er...pet sheep. Sometimes it's just fine for someone to have no other purpose in life but to live and be one of God's creatures. That's Doodle, Snowball, Rosebud, and Shermy. Welcome to their world!

Magical Days

Snowball and I like to go exploring.
It's especially good when we find a magical path...
that's full of yummy green things to eat!
As long as we can see Mom or Dad, we know we won't get lost.

One of these days, we might go all the way down and visit the burn that we can hear gently flowing past our field!

Did I Mention...

I am also thankful for hugs and squishes!
Almost as much as cookies...
Do I see a cookie sticking out of your pocket?

Happy Thanksgiving!

Mom says they don't really have Thanksgiving here in Scotland.
I think that's sad.
But all the McLambies celebrate Thanksgiving!
We McLambies are thankful for lots of things:
Lamby people who love us
A safe place to live
Lots of hay and kibbles
Daily walks of exploration and exuberance

Happy Thanksgiving from The McLambies and their people!

Speaking of Cuteness

Just a reminder...
There's only one me!

Dad says he doesn't think he could hold me like that anymore.  I'm not sure why he says that...

Attack of Cuteness

Okay, I have to admit it.  Snowball was a cute baby.  Maybe not as cute as I was, but still.
Mom said it was like having a stuffed animal come to life
and start cavorting around the backyard.
Every little girl's dream come true!

Happy Birthday Maisie!

From all of us
(Doodle, Snowball, Rosebud, and Shermy)
here in our little home in Scotland...

Happy One-Year Birthday
Maisie the Sheep

over in Kentucky, at Sara's place!
Stop by and leave your own birthday wishes to Maisie, and find out about her story here.

Dinner Time...or, Diner Time

Somebody said something about "peasants".
Or maybe it was "pheasants".
What's a "diner" anyway?  I thought it was "dinner".
Snowball likes to dine inside.
Me...I just wanna eat.

Fun, Fun, Fun...

Snowball.  He always has to be different.
He's such a show-off!  I don't know why he likes hopping in the back of that big green thing so much.
Hey!  I mean...HAY!
I don't think the Uncles are very impressed.  Me...I'd rather be munching grass, or hay...or...COOKIES!

Back in the Backyard, Pt 3

Must you always be taking our pictures?
I guess this is the bane of so much cuteness.  Don't we have the nicest ears you've ever seen?

Back in the Backyard, Pt 2

We were amazing!  Faster than speeding bullets!  Able to leap over a small step in a single bound!
It was fun playing in the backyard with Mom and Dad.  They ran around a lot, too.  I think we ran better than they did.

Back in the Backyard, Pt 1

Look at me being a big lamb and eating clover!  Well, okay.  I wasn't really eating it.  I was just learning how to eat green things growing up from the ground.  It didn't take me long, though!
Look at silly Snowball picking up rocks!  Er... well... we both liked to pick up rocks and carry them around.  It was fun!  And it made Mom and Dad run after us and try to make us drop them again.  Sometimes they would open our mouths and fish the stone out.  It was a great game!

Nap Time

We had to have lots of naps when we were little.  This is us in our pen in the garage.  We were all snuggled up in the straw.  The garage door was partway up so we could see out.  No one ever bothered us.  Sometimes the neighbors said HI!  It was nice to be all safe and secure.

Backyard Babies, Pt 3 (Little Baby Snowball)

It's true.  We were not even two boards high on the fence when we were little babies!
Baby Snowball still had his whole tail!  And he had to concentrate really hard to move all his legs right.  But I think I had to concentrate harder.
This is Baby Snowball next to Dad.  See how tiny we were?  We were not even as high as a wellie boot!

Backyard Babies, pt 2

Mom likes to keep showing our baby pictures.  I guess we are kinda cute.  Don't you just want to pick us up and give us hugs and squishes?
We still get hugs and squishes, even though we are big lambs.
We are SIX MONTHS OLD now.
In this picture, we were only about a week and a half old!

Hey! It's Hay!

We love hay time.  Mom and Dad say we are eating a lot of hay.  But we have to, because winter is coming, and the grass in our field is just about gone.  We have a nice big hay restaurant right in our field.  It has three sides, and we can all easily get a good bite.  Mom and Dad give us fresh, dry hay every single day!

Yep, I'm a Happy Lamb

Don't you think I have grown into my big feet and legs?  I do.  Dad says I'll never grow into my ears.  I don't know he means.  My ears fit me fine!
Here I come for my daily cookie rations!

Autumn Lambs

Sometimes it's just nice to wander up and down the lane in the late autumn sunshine, browsing for tasty morsels, and spending time together.  I'm a happy lamb.

3 Sheep and a Mannequin

The four McLambies.
One of us seems to be "not amused".  Can you tell which one?
Mom and Dad have just come to our field.  This means cookies for all!
Snowball likes to pretend he is a mountain sheep.
No, that is not a Rosebud mannequin.  How can he stay so still for so long?  Guess that's why everyone calls Uncle Bud "The Curmudgeon"!

Bring on the cookies!

Baby Days: Back Yard Babies, Continued...

We had so much fun playing in the back yard...and exploring.  It took us awhile to learn about grass.  I'm kinda embarrassed to say it, but we liked picking up the stones and carrying them around in our mouths, at first, instead of eating grass.  We don't do that anymore.
Snowball is so dramatic.  He likes to pose and pretend he's on camera.  Wait...he IS on camera.  You know what I mean!

Baby Days: The Back Yard, Pt 2

Pretty soon, we were running and jumping like mad Spring Lambs!  Snowball got the nickname "Rocket" because he ran so fast.  I had a hard time keeping all my legs going in the right direction at first.  Mom and Dad gave us lots of nicknames:  They called us Frasier and Niles!  Guess which was which?

Baby Days: The Back Yard, Pt 1

Look how little Baby Snowball is!  He was just tiny, with a very pointy nose!
When we were about a week old, and the weather was drier, we started spending time in the back yard.  There were lots of things to explore...and GRASS!!  We weren't sure what to do with green grass at first, but now we are grazing champions.  You can see in this picture that I had been a sick lamby, and had pretty bad scours (diarrhea).  Dad got medicine for me, and Mom fed me lots of electrolytes (she said it was "juice").  It took a few weeks...and Snowball got it, too.  Then we had to have more medicine and extra care...but we both got well.
See Snowball's pointy nose!

Baby Days: Garage Babies, Pt 2

This is us in our garage pen.  There were big sheets of styrofoam on the outside of three sides ~ that was to keep drafts off us (they stayed there until Snowball decided he liked to eat styrofoam, then they went away).  Mom says we had big heads.  My head still wasn't big enough for my ears!
We spent our days sleeping, eating, and bouncing!

Baby Days: Garage Babies, Pt 1

When we first came home from being born, we lived in the garage.  Mom and Dad made us a nice pen with a big bed, and we felt very safe and secure.  We were very little then.  And very active!
We came out all the time.  It was cold outside, and still wet, so we played in the garage.  There were lots of things for us to climb on, jump on, and get in trouble over!  It was fun!  We got cuddled a lot, and had lots of bottles to drink.  Mom says we were "spoiled".  I don't feel spoiled.  I feel great!

Rosebud and Shermy

I should say something about Uncle Bud (left) and Uncle Shermy (right).  But what?  Shermy likes to try to butt us little guys with his big, hard head.  Sometimes Rosebud does, too.  But I guess they're okay.  Mostly we all get along.  And I have been butting heads with Uncle Rosebud!  Dad says I'm going to have a big, hard head when I grow up!  I don't like when they butt at Snowball, though.  He doesn't butt back, like I do.  We all have to take care that Snowball is looked after!
Uncle Rosebud is a North Country Cheviot.  Uncle Shermy is half NCC and half Shetland.  Rosebud is sort of cobby in build, but Shermy is taller and longer.  Uncle Shermy has a Roman nose!  Uncle Rosebud actually has a very sweet, cute face...for an old guy!

Growing and Changing

Snowball wants to show you how he's not completely white anymore.
He has been getting tan patches on his face and legs.  And he has two black dots on one ear, and one black dot on the other.  And a black dot over his right eye.
Don't you think he has a pointy head?  He has a pointy nose, that's for sure!

Saturday, November 2, 2013

Look what Mom and Dad made for us!  And every day, they fill it up.  We all like it a lot.  And every day, it all gets eaten up.
Dad says I have to stop standing sideways and let Snowball in.  I don't know what he's talking about!

Sharing...or Not

We don't all grow at the same rate.  Sometimes that means the littlest one doesn't get his fair share.  That's what has been happening with Snowball.
We can't help it.  Winter is coming, and we have to eat up so we will be strong and warm and able to handle the cold.  I haven't had a winter yet, so I'm not sure what everyone is talking about.  But I like to eat, so I'm "bulking up" for the winter.
Snowball eats by himself now.  He's kind of a slow eater.  You can't be slow around me and Uncle Rosebud!  Shermy, too.  So, the three biggest guys share the trough, and little Baby Snowball gets his own bowl.  Everybody seems more peaceful this way, and we're ALL enjoying our dinner now!
Today, though, Uncle Rosebud and Uncle Shermy thought they would try to eat from Snowball's bowl first!  It was great for me.  I went right in and started eating out of our trough.  I think their plan backfired, because I was eating and Snowball was eating, but the Uncles were being chased around so they would come to the trough like they are supposed to.  Sometimes being older doesn't mean being wiser!
