Who is Doodle, you ask? Doodle is one of the four lambs (sheep) who make up the McLamby family. He lives in the Northern Highlands of Scotland, and this is his blog. That's right; life from a lamb's point of view. Doodle, and his brother Snowball, were orphaned lambs and raised on bottles...first in the garage and backyard of their people ("Dad" and "Mom")...then out in the big field with their "Uncles" Rosebud and Shermy, two big Cheviot sheep who are also...er...pet sheep. Sometimes it's just fine for someone to have no other purpose in life but to live and be one of God's creatures. That's Doodle, Snowball, Rosebud, and Shermy. Welcome to their world!

It's Mom and Dad!  We're coming, Mom and Dad!  Um, did I mention that Snowball's other name is Rocket?  He is always the first lamb anywhere.  Unless we're moving slowly, and I barge through.  'Cause I like to be first sometimes, too.
Here I am, catching up.  When I was little, my back end sometimes overtook my front end!  I'm not so bad like that anymore.

Running and jumping is fun!  Even though we are bigger Doodles and Snowballs now, we still like to run and jump.  Especially when the weather is just right:  crisp and cool and sunny.  Perfect cavorting weather for lambs.
When the cavorting weather is here, you should try it, too!  We'll play with you and show you how!

Double Trouble

Lemme see!  Lemme See!  Stand still!
What?  We're not doing anything.  I was not standing on Doodle's back!

Snowball sometimes gets us in trouble.  He's such a curious lamb.  The most curious of all of us, I think.  And he always wants to see!

Me... I'm outta here.  Not going to let Snowball get ME in trouble!  I'm off to find something good to eat.  And to hide in the tall grass and dream of being a BIG Doodle...

Lamb Tops

Even though we are very photogenic (that means we look good in pictures!), it's very hard to get good, clear photos of us.  We're jumpy, bouncy, busy lambs, for one thing.  And if we're not moving all around, here and there, we're eating.
So, you get lots of pictures that are blurry.  And, you get Lamb Tops.  That's the top of our fuzzy heads, mostly while we are head down and eating.

Snowball has a pointy head, even from the top.  He also has a little whorl of wool that looks like a cute little hat (or, a toupee).  And I have a big, hard head with unique markings and massive amounts of cuteness.
Lamb Tops.  Not available in stores.

The Sherminator

Uncle Shermy has come a long way, so they tell me.  He was a very scared lamb when he first joined the McLamby family.  He came from a very large farm, and we don't think he was treated very well.
Now, he is happy, and curious, and cookie-loving, and even will stand for hours and let you scritch him and pet him and hug him.  Good ol' Uncle Shermy.

He thinks he hears something, and is headed to investigate.
Did you call?  Did you say you wanted to give me some cookies?

The Sherminator.  Only, not really.  He's a big Huggy Buggy, and mostly, we like him (except when he is bashing Snowball with his big, hard head).

Sleepy Bud

This is Uncle Rosebud.  He's settling down for a snooze.  Mom says he is like a big pudding!
See his sleepy head falling down!  He even has droopy ears.

He wants to stay awake because people are here, and he likes to keep an eye on everybody.  But he just can't.

It was a short snooze, though.  And he woke up to keep watch.  But he stayed in bed.

Mom also says Uncle Rosebud is like a big teddy bear.  Especially a couple weeks after he gets clipped.  Then he looks like he is wearing stuffed animal fur.  I guess we can give him his share of cuteness!

Serenity Now, Doodle!

I'm a thinking Doodle.  Here I am, contemplating my next move.
And this is me, surveying my land, and considering.

Here I am sitting.  And thinking.  Contemplation is good for the soul.

I remain unruffled, even when others come and try to disturb me.

The Serene Doodle is able to stay peaceful and calm.

See?  I am still meditative.  Unfazed.  Strong of mind!

You can say what you like about the Scaredy Doodle, but I'm usually the one who is least bothered about things.  It's a gift!  I'm a good Doodle!

Resting Lambs, Minus One

Here we see Snowball all snuggled up between a little weedy thing and a fence.  He feels safe and secure, and he's getting ready for nap time.

Rosebud likes to be away out in the middle of a place, so he can see all around him and he won't feel penned in.

Me, Doodle ... I like to lie down in lots of different places, wherever I get the notion.  Here, I'm thinking.  I like to sit and think a lot, too.  I'm very philosophical.

Shermy.  He's not so sure.  He doesn't feel like nap time.  He's looking at the rest of us and trying to figure out how to get us to play.  He couldn't do it!  We won, and Shermy lay down to take a nap, too.
The McLambies need to rest, just like you do!

Marching Orders and General Ferociousness

And we did!

And our reward for obedience:
More Scritching!  YAY!

But look at me now:

Not really.  The secret truth is:  I'm mostly a Scaredy Doodle.  At least until I'm sure of things.  They SAY I'm a Scaredy Doodle, but I say I'm cautious!

We're Baaaaaack!

And here we see Baby Snowball.  He likes to graze right next to Mom or Dad.  Well, we both kinda like to do that.  It's like having a security blanket, I guess.
Snowball is showing his white fuzzy head and his long, pointy ear.

And now, time for a little scritch.
Scritch Scritch Scritch!

Uh... can you see why we call Snowball the Pointy-Nosed Lamb?

Wee Break

Um... We have to take a wee break.  Mom is learning a new computer and a new operating system, whatever that is.  Please be patient (more patient than Mom).  All the McLambies will be back next week, Monday the 21st of July.
Meanwhile, take a cue from Snowball, and relax a little!

Working and Playing...Together

Heads together!  Two heads are better than one!  We like to work and play together, Snowball and me.
Here I am, leading!  Follow me Snowball.

Here comes Snowball.  Hey!  Those are some ears, don't ya think?

Here we are, working together.
Eating grass and yummy green things ... that's our job.  Mostly, we go our own ways for eating.  We like different things, you see.  But sometimes, we like the same.  And then, we graze together.

It's nice having someone to work and play with!

A Narrow Place Inside a Narrow Place

This is me, investigating.  From the outside.  Well, I'm inside the first narrow place, which I'm used to, but look!  Another narrow place inside it!
Snowball, who is brave and intrepid, is peeking out of the inner narrow place.  I'm not so sure.

Snowball said he would fully investigate it and let me know.  Turns out, Dad built another narrow place inside the narrow place because the Mudgeons were sometimes knocking down the first narrow place!  We still needed a private dining room, you see.  Only the Uncles thought they should have been invited.

Snowball went in and out of the new wooden narrow place.  He said we could easily fit, and that our dining table was still inside.

I become braver when food is mentioned!
And anyway, it's nice when Snowball and I work as a team!

The Stand-Off

Here are the Mudgeons:  Rosebud and Shermy.

Aren't they stand-offish?  Especially Shermy!
But in a Mudgeon Stand-Off, the cookies always win!

Doodle Is Off 'Sploring

You see... I'm a "Rough Toughie".  That's what Dad says I am.  Er ... that's what Dad says I THINK I am.  'Cause... er ... being a truthful Doodle, I have to say that I am not so tough.  I get scared pretty easily.  Mom says I'm Baby Doodle.  I kinda like that.  Only, I don't!
So... it always takes me a bit of courage to go 'sploring.  Yes, I am an Independent Doodle, but not an especially Brave Doodle.

This is me, investigating a gorse bush.  They are very pricky!  They smell good to eat, but they are just too pricky.

I don't mind 'sploring when I know Mom and Dad are just around the corner!  Safe 'sploring.  That's my kind!

Uncle Rosebud's Summertime Interlude

Uncle Rosebud is posing!  He likes a lot of attention, too... even if he doesn't like to be scritched so much.

This is Rosebud giving you his "Aren't I becoming?" look (above).
Here is Rosebud in profile.

A summertime interlude!

Below, you see Uncle Rosebud looking a bit shy and contemplative.  A little coy, maybe?  Hee hee.

And finally, Uncle Rosebud looking you straight in the eye!

It's fun making up an Uncle Rosebud Photo Shoot.  I said "it's fun making" NOT "it's making fun"!  I'm a good Doodle!
