Who is Doodle, you ask? Doodle is one of the four lambs (sheep) who make up the McLamby family. He lives in the Northern Highlands of Scotland, and this is his blog. That's right; life from a lamb's point of view. Doodle, and his brother Snowball, were orphaned lambs and raised on bottles...first in the garage and backyard of their people ("Dad" and "Mom")...then out in the big field with their "Uncles" Rosebud and Shermy, two big Cheviot sheep who are also...er...pet sheep. Sometimes it's just fine for someone to have no other purpose in life but to live and be one of God's creatures. That's Doodle, Snowball, Rosebud, and Shermy. Welcome to their world!

Just Hangin' Out

Sometimes we have these great days when there is enough time for everyone to just hang out.  It's so much fun.  Mom and Dad sit with us, and we wander around, and go back and forth to them for scritches and hugs... and cookies!
Sometimes we just put our heads in their laps, or lay our head against their knees.  It's nice.

Uncle Shermy likes to have his head and neck and chest rubbed.  He doesn't usually smile all that much, but he's actually a pretty contented lamby.

Here we see me, Doodle, putting my head on Mom's leg.  She will pet me and scritch me and give me a cookie!  Life is good.

See?  Scritches.  Look at my happy smile!

Awww.  Snowball will always be the baby.  He likes to come up and just sort of lean into Mom or Dad.  He is very sweet-natured and soft-hearted and good.  Don't tell him I said that.

And sometimes, if everyone is quiet and contented... or even if we're not... Mom will sing to us!  It always calms us right down.  You should try it!  Music is good for our lamby souls.

'Sploring and Eating

Here we see me, Doodle, contemplating where I'd like to begin 'sploring our new place.
Here we see Snowball, 'sploring by starting out eating right where he was.  It's a good method of checking places out:  try the food.

Here we see Shermy doing the same thing.  And Uncle Rosebud had already gone off and gotten lost in the tall grass of eatingness.

It looks like weeds, but actually, there was a LOT of wonderful green growing stuff in our new home.

I like trying new cuisine.

Here we see Snowball, demonstrating how to drink from our little green tub.  We can have a little green tub because there are only four of us.  And because Mom or Dad fills it up every day for us.
I, Doodle, LOVE to drink lots and lots of wattah!  Every day, after kibble time, I run to the little green tub and drink, drink, drink.  Yummy!  Then, I usually come and wipe my wet, drippy muzzle all over Mom's coat sleeve.

Here we see Snowball taking a short breathing break.

Here we see Snowball resuming his wattah consumption.  Everyone should drink lots and lots of wattah for good health.

Called On Account of Weather

Well... Hug A Sheep Day did not happen here at Doodle's Place.  Not this year, anyway.  We were full of rain and windy and it was a blustery weekend.
On the bright side... it's pretty much always Hug A Sheep Day with us!  So here's a little photo of Uncle Shermy and Mom from last year about this time.
We hope you all got to hug sheeps, wherever you are!

Family Photo

Here we all are... lined up for our family photo.  Snowball is posing.  But, um... er... the rest of us are struggling to stay still and smile for the camera.  So... another shot:

Well, maybe we could "Photoshop" the first Snowball into this one?

Bye Bye Bus!

Hey!  What's going on?
The big green thing and the Sheep Bus were leaving our new field.  YAY!

Snowball wasn't sure.  He thought we were all being left behind by ourselves.

Bye Bye Dad!  See you without the Sheep Bus next time!

Snowball still wasn't sure.  He doesn't like to think Mom and Dad are very far away.

Snowball is looking around, trying to assess the situation.  We assured him... uh... Mom was standing right over him!

Meanwhile... time to get 'sploring our new place!

Partners in Crime

Snowball:  Hey!  Hey!  What's that?  Look!  Doodle, Look!
Doodle:  Lemme just eat this piece of grass first.

Snowball:  Forget the grass.  Look what it is!
Doodle:  HEY!  The pink pail!  The pink pail!  And they just left it there.  I smell kibbles.  There are kibbles in it!
Snowball:  Do you think you can get it?  Maybe they won't notice.

Doodle:  I've almost got it!
Doodle:  I can touch it with my nose!  But it won't move.
Snowball:  That's no good.  Try to bite it and pull it towards us!

Doodle:  Sigh.  Nope.  I can't reach it.
Snowball:  Gee whiz.  So close and so far.  Do you think they did this on purpose?

Snowball Struggles With Change, and Doodle Talks Him Through It

Snowball:  I'm not sure I like this new place.  Am I supposed to eat this stick?
Doodle:  Whatsa matter with you, Snowball?  Look around!  The place is filled with all kinds of yummy green things.  Look at the Uncles, chomping away!

Snowball:  This other stick thing is poking me in the eye.  I don't like it.
Doodle:  Are you nuts?  This place is great, and no ponies to torment us like at the last place!
Snowball:  Yeah, but look over the fence.  I wanna eat THAT grass.
Doodle:  You can eat plenty of that grass every day when Mom and Dad take us places for eating and 'sploring,

Snowball:  *SIGH*  I guess.  I'll try some.

Doodle:  Sometimes you have to help sort the baby out and point him in the right direction!

It's Coming: Hug A Sheep Day!

Visit the good folks at Punkin's Patch (Equinox Farm) and THIS SITE to find out about (Inter) National Hug a Sheep Day.  Also, see the link on the sidebar.  This year, it will be Saturday, October 25th.  That's just one week away!  Yippee!

And just contact us, if you're anywhere near the Fearn Peninsula in the Highlands of Scotland, and you can join us in our own little Hug a Sheep Day!  (We get to do this every day, but still, it's nice to have an extra special day in honor of lambiness!)

Shermy and Rosebud

Shermy and Rosebud are a team.  Sometimes they are a bad team, trying to outwit Mom and Dad!  They don't really do this anymore, though.  They've mellowed a lot since Snowball and I came.
For two years, it was just Rosebud.  He was an only lamb.

Then, Shermy came, and for three years, it was just Shermy and Rosebud.  They bonded pretty well and became good brothers.

So, sometimes I guess, maybe... er... Snowball and I have to remember that there are other lambs in the field besides just us.  It's kinda hard, though.  I mean, we even lived in Mom and Dad's house with them (well, the garage, anyway)... and even Shermy and Rosebud can't boast that!
But... the best thing is when we all get along, and us littler guys remember the bigger guys were here first!

Thursday Babies

It's Thursday, and for some reason, we are allowed to post old photos on Thursday.  So I, Doodle, thought I'd share some baby photos with you.  Here I am, about 3 days old.  Look how wrinkly I am!  I have since grown into my skin... and then some!
And here I am with Mom.

Mom could never in a million years pick me up and hold me like this now, but we still have cuddle time every day!

Just Making Sure

Here you see me, just checking with Mom to make sure we were in the right field and that this was really our new home.  Because, you see...
There was a TON of grass and green growing things to eat!  Here you see everyone sampling the new fare.  YUMMY!

Uncle Shermy is digging right in, eating good stuff.

Our field does not look like this so much anymore.  We ate it all!  But we go out every day and eat lots of good green things all around.  I like eating out!

Moving Day :: Revisited

It was just over a year ago that we moved from our old home to our new home, which isn't new anymore, because we've lived here for over a year!  I was remembering what moving day was like...
How Mom and Dad made us go into this horrible metal box which they told us was a Sheep Bus (only really, I don't think it was).  You can see us peeking out from the little tiny windows.  I mean, if it were a real bus, wouldn't it have big windows for sightseeing??

And another thing... this was not a self-driving bus!  Dad was pulling us by driving this huge, green thing with big wheels.  I do not like those!  I see a lot of them at certain times of year.  They never come right into our field, though.  Anyway... we went for a ride.  It wasn't very long, thank goodness!  I think it was about 9 hours, but Mom said it was only 10 minutes.  Probably it felt longer because Snowball baa-ed the whole entire way!

But here we are, coming out of the bus thing and going into our new field!  We still live here.  It's kinda small, our field, but it's home, and we are comfortable in it.  It feels secure.  And it's quiet and peaceful all around, with no neighbors too close by.  Plus, the bonus is that Mom and Dad take us out for walks and adventures and 'sploring and treks to other fields and lots of time eating good green things growing all around... EVERY DAY!

So, I guess it was worthwhile to ride in the "sheep bus" for a little ways, until we came to our new home.  Still, I'd rather not go for those kinds of rides.  The bus might be silver colored, but it definitely isn't "Silver Service"!

Shermy the Cowboy

Uncle Shermy's alter-ego is a Cowboy.  Here he is showing you his cowboy look.  See his big, fleecy jacket?  And his rustic cowboy setting?

Shermy says he'd like to ride the range, and he keeps telling me to, "Git along little dogie."  I don't know what he's talking about!  He keeps asking for a hat, too!  For some reason, he also wants to change his name to "Stetson".  That's Uncle Shermy for you.  He moves to his own drummer!

Supper Time!

Supper Time!  It's getting a little crowded at our dinner table.
This does not stop me from focusing on the task at hand.

After dinner, we always get more cookies.  And then, when Mom and Dad are leaving us, after dinner, we get even more cookies!

We expect this.  And we are always there to remind them, just in case they forget.

I'm sometimes (often) a little over-excited about cookie time.  It's just my Doodle zealousness for life!

When we moved to our new field, we got different dinner arrangements, too!  The Uncles dine at their own table, and we have our own bowls.  Mine is red!  Snowball has a blue one.  And we all still get lots of cookies!
It's nice having staff who work for you.
