Who is Doodle, you ask? Doodle is one of the four lambs (sheep) who make up the McLamby family. He lives in the Northern Highlands of Scotland, and this is his blog. That's right; life from a lamb's point of view. Doodle, and his brother Snowball, were orphaned lambs and raised on bottles...first in the garage and backyard of their people ("Dad" and "Mom")...then out in the big field with their "Uncles" Rosebud and Shermy, two big Cheviot sheep who are also...er...pet sheep. Sometimes it's just fine for someone to have no other purpose in life but to live and be one of God's creatures. That's Doodle, Snowball, Rosebud, and Shermy. Welcome to their world!

It's What's for Dinner...

What do you feed two little ones like these?  Little baby lambs who have no sheep mommies.

Lots and lots of this:

And yes, it gets warmed up just like human baby milk.  Two little lamb monsters can go through a lot of this stuff.  Mom and Dad had to have an ongoing account with the vet ~ whatever that means.

We don't get this anymore.  Try explaining that to Snowball.  He still thinks we should.

The Pointy-Nosed Lamb of Curiosity

It's Snowball.  Make that, BABY Snowball.  He's at it again.  He was very curious as a baby.  Er...actually...he still is.  If he sees a hole and he thinks he can fit into it, he will go.  He says it's not a hole, it's an opening.

He was always climbing all over Mom and Dad.  Er...actually...he still does that.  If he thinks someone has something...anything at all...he wants it.  Such a little baby!  We still like him, though.

He seems to think if he pokes hard enough with his nose at something, it will become his.

Good thing he's cute.  He gets away with a lot.
Well...I guess we both get away with a lot.  It's nice having people who love us!

Safety Advice

And now, from Uncle Rosebud... the senior patriarch of the McLambies:  Some safety advice.

You should always look Left (unless you're in the UK, in which case, look Right)...

and then look Right (unless you're in the UK, in which case, look Left)...

and then look Left again (unless you're in the UK, in which case, look Right again)...

before standing in the middle of the road, blocking everyone's way!

It's great that we have uncles who guide us!

Pet Lambs

Snowball and I were rescued.  Mom says we make great pets.  Dad thinks so, too.  Who wouldn't want baby lambs?  A lots of people don't, though.  That makes all of us sad.  When we grow up, we are loyal friends.  And we even let you have our wool, when we're done with it!

Milk Bottles ~ Our Favorites!

We started out with lots and lots of milk bottles a day.  Mom and Dad tried to make it as much like having a real sheep mommy as possible.

Sometimes I would get so excited, I could hardly find the teat.  And once, when Mom was feeding me, I pulled it so hard, the teat came away from the bottle and everything fell on the ground, and all the milk spilled out.  It was horrible!  Mom went and got me more, though.

I guess we got kinda frothy around our mouths.  Mom and Dad always wiped our mouths with a napkin before we could go play again.

Snowball used to poke his pointy mouth really hard at Mom and Dad, demanding his bottle.  Sometimes, I still see him try to do this with Mom.  He is convinced he should still have a bottle.

Lazy Days

Look at those ears!  Snowball has pink bunny ears ~ HA HA!  And they talk about MY ears?  Sometimes we would lie about in the sun together.  It was nice.

Snowball is getting sleepy!  YAY!  That means he won't crawl all over me.

At last...a rare moment when Snowball is snoozing, and I can just enjoy relaxing...listening to the birds, enjoying the warm grass, thinking about when my next milk bottle was coming...

Mom, are you sure we're going to get summer again?

Thursday, January 23, 2014

It's pretty grey here.  Every day it's wet, at least at some point in the day...or night.  Our field is pretty mucky.  The daylight hours are short.  Snowball and I have been talking.  We keep remembering the summer, when we were baby lambs.  Mom says summer will come again.  I sure hope so.  Doesn't Snowball look happy, daydreaming in the warm sun?

Shermy and the Pocket

Shermy's full name is:  Shermy Wiesenheimer.  Now, it's Shermy11052010.
Shermy is obsessed with Mom's coat pocket.

The other McLambies have more patience than Shermy.  Even I, Doodle, have better manners!

Shermy is a monster.  This is just my personal opinion, mind you.  But you can see the evidence for yourself!

Please notice that Snowball and I are angelic, whereas Shermy the Monster is caught in the act!
We don't need any more evidence or exhibits.  Here are two witnesses...three if you count Mom...and Dad caught the whole thing on a not-hidden camera.

Once again, Mom's coat has gone in the wash!

Oh Shermy.
What are we going to do with you?

Hey!  I know!  I might have to take away Shermy's cookie rations.  I'm sure I can come up with a better use for them.

The Meaning of Lambiness

The meaning of lambiness [pronounced "lamby-ness"], n.,:  (1) a soft, woolly, fluffy bundle of cuteness and sweetness and goodness; (2) a virtue.
Ex.:  Doodle is the King of Lambiness!
The truth about lambiness, though, is that you either understand it, or you don't.  All lambs have lambiness, and so, they understand it.  Some people do.
Doodleness is a superlative form of lambiness!

Lamby Lambhead

That's Snowball.  He's doing his toy animal impression again.
Doesn't he have a soft, fuzzy, head of woolliness?  Don't you just want to pet him and give him a great big hug?  And you know what?  He's just as soft and cute and sweet as he looks!

(I'm having a happy day, spreading Doodleness around and giving compliments to the McLambies.)

I like being Doodle.  I'm the star of my own life!

And everywhere I go, I spread Doodleness.
Doodleness is kinda like goodness, sweetness, and cuteness, all wrapped up in one Doodle package.

Doodleness also includes a good dose of sitting back and taking it easy.

Everyone should practice Doodleness once in awhile.

Doodle Says YES

Could you possibly ever say NO to this face?

What about this face?

Good thing for us, Mom and Dad can never say NO to these faces, either!
It's all about YES here!

Double Trouble

Sometimes they call us "Double Trouble".
I say, we're twice as much fun as one!

Here we are, telepathically planning trouble..er...adventure together!

Okay, maybe Snowball was trying to bite the post holding the fence up.  But we just wanted to see what was across the road.  Um...er...eventually, we had this windy day, see, and then the pallet blew down, and the next thing I knew, I was following Snowball across the road for a trip of exploration.  Until Dad came running out of the front door, frantically calling us home.  I was kinda glad to go back home.  Who knows where Snowball would have taken us?!?!

But see?  Really, we're just sweet little lambies who would never get in trouble.

Stop laughing!

Whaddya mean, Snowball?  How is my ear poking you in the eye?  Will no one ever let up about my ears??

Doodle Hugs, Too

I like to get hugs, too...and give them.  Maybe I don't jump up much, but I like to be with my Mom and Dad, and when they rub my head, or under my jaw, or my woolly chest, I'm a happy lamb!

I even like people to pet my ears!  And scritch my soft cheeks!

And if I get a hug and a pet and a scritch...AND some cookies, well, it's a banner day!
Every day is a banner day for me, Doodle!

Lamb Hugs

This is me and Snowball.  You can't see me, Doodle, very well.  And I'm really more interested in eating grass and finding cookies, truth be told.  Snowball is getting ready to jump on Dad.

See?  He does this all the time.  I like to jump, too, but mostly straight up in the air.

Snowball likes to give lots of hugs to Mom and Dad.

I heard Mom and Dad say they were a bit worried about when Snowball gets bigger.  I'm not sure what they mean.

Snowball just can't help himself.  It's just the way he is.  Kinda weird.

He's having a heart-to-heart with Dad.
I like to have talks with Mom and Dad, too.  But I prefer to talk while we're sharing cookies (that is, while they're sharing cookies with me!).

Doodle on a Mission

I heard something!  What was it?
I'm going to take a look.  And I'm very focused.  I'm so focused, even today, that if I'm walking...or running...and you are in front of me, I might not see you.  I might just walk into you, or knock you over.  I'm not being mean.  I'm just focused!

Don't I have nice ears?  And kneepads?
Ah...I found it!  I thought I heard something.  It was grass growing.  And calling me to eat it!  No wonder I was so focused.

Now, I'm so good at hearing food, I can hear the cookie packet opening long before I can even see it!
Such talent I have!

Eating Practice

When you are a baby, you have to learn everything.  It's the same for baby lambs.  We didn't know how to eat grass, or kibbles, or cookies, or anything!

Snowball is demonstrating our eating practice in the back yard.

He does not take this long to eat one blade of grass anymore!

He doesn't ask for permission, either! Neither do I!

You can see me in the way back.  I'm behind the bush.  That's me, Doodle, that the hand is pointing to.  I was doing my eating practice on the neighbor's bush.  It was sticking through the fence, so I thought it was ours.

Did you know that lambs, and big sheep, do not have top front teeth?  It's true.  We don't!  We can still bite though.  If we wanted to.  Snowball bit Dad's finger once.  But that's because Dad was trying to get something out of Snowball's mouth.  He was choking.  Snowball, not Dad.  So Dad put Snowball on his butt, and that's when Snowball bit him!

Snowball is a spoiled baby monster.  We still love him, though.
