Who is Doodle, you ask? Doodle is one of the four lambs (sheep) who make up the McLamby family. He lives in the Northern Highlands of Scotland, and this is his blog. That's right; life from a lamb's point of view. Doodle, and his brother Snowball, were orphaned lambs and raised on bottles...first in the garage and backyard of their people ("Dad" and "Mom")...then out in the big field with their "Uncles" Rosebud and Shermy, two big Cheviot sheep who are also...er...pet sheep. Sometimes it's just fine for someone to have no other purpose in life but to live and be one of God's creatures. That's Doodle, Snowball, Rosebud, and Shermy. Welcome to their world!

Determined Snowball

There was this bush, see.  It was in the backyard where we lived when we were little tiny.  Maybe you remember me talking about it before...

Snowball:  Hey, do ya think this bush is getting taller?  We used to be able to eat the leaves...

Snowball:  It's really hard to reach the leaves now.
Doodle:  What's wrong with eating what's down here?  Chomp.  Chomp.  Chomp.

Snowball:  Leaves are better!  I love leaves.  Hey, I got an idea.  Stand still!
Doodle:  Hey, whaddya doin'?

Snowball:  Chomp.  Chomp.  Chomp.
Doodle:  Knock it off, Snowball!

Snowball:  Fine.  I'll just have to stretch taller!  I can reach all by myself!  HA!
Doodle:  Sigh...

Doodle GIVES a Scritching, Too!

Sometimes, if Mom or Dad is not scritching me, I will scritch one of them!
***
This is me, scritching Mom's foot.

I like to share Doodleness as much as possible.

See how fuzzy the top of my head is?  Isn't it cute?  I'm still like that!

For some reason, I can't really get Mom or Dad to play the Head Pushing Game with me anymore, so I have to give scritches.

I was practicing with my baby teeth, too!

Chomp!  Chomp!  Chomp!  I liked to chew leather and plastic.
***
Now I like to chew dandelions...and cookie!

Proof That Doodle Likes to Be Scritched, Too

Snowball isn't the only one who likes to get scritches!
***
I, Doodle, like them too!

And the good thing is, Mom and Dad are always happy to give them to me.  Just like cookies!

Here you see me doing my lop-eared lamb look.  Cute, isn't it?

Here I am, perfecting my "I only have one ear" look.  Fooled you, didn't I?

Nope, I still have two big ears!

And knee pads!  See my knee pads?

I love scritching time!  The only thing better is eating time... and cookie time.

A Small Break

The McLambies are contemplatives.  We are all taking a break for Great and Holy Friday and the Pascha Vigil.  May God bless you all.

Doodle Steals the Limelight

Snowball gets a lot of attention.  That's 'cause he BAAAS all the time, and he is pushy, and he pokes people with his pointy nose, and he has to have lots and lots of attention.
***
I like Snowball, though.  He's fun.  And he's my best buddy.  And we were raised together.  We're brothers.
***
But let me tell you about Doodle.  That's me.  Doodle.  Snickerdoodle McLamby.  The King of Doodleness!  I am one happy lamb with loads of personality.  I like to play and bounce and eat...and eat and eat and eat.  I like to play with Mom and Dad.  I like to play with the other McLambies.  I like to play all by myself.  You should see me when I toss my head and bounce down the lane, as happy as can be.  I'm a sight to behold!  And I'll happily share your cookies with you.  Not only that, but I'm a champion at the Head Pushing Game.  And, I will stand and let you kiss the top of my head and hug me and pet me and scritch me.  I even have built-in knee pads.  I can stand up on my hind legs to eat low tree branches.  I can run fast (just not as fast as Snowball), and when I am really happy, I march like a soldier...MARCH, MARCH, MARCH...HUP HUP HUP...BOING BOING BOING!  I'm very brave.  Except when I'm not.  And I'm one-of-a-kind.  OOAK.  That's me!  The one and only Doodle!

Snowball Gets Scritched...Again

Snowball:  "Hey!  Doodle!  Scritch me!"
Doodle:  "No way!"
***
Snowball:  "MOMMY!"

Baby Snowball was such a baby.  Well, you know what I mean.  He always had to have lots and lots of hugs and squishes, and even more scritches.  He's still like that.  I'm only like that sometimes.  When I'm not being Independent Doodle.  Which I'm not a lot of the time.  But anyway...

Here's Snowball getting his scritches.
***
And here he is being The Unbelievably Cute Lop-Earred Lamb.  He says this picture should make everyone want to have a pet baby lamb.

See how easy it is to make pet baby lambs happy?

And they can look very silly, too.

Mom says pet baby lambs are very therapeutic.  She says BIG lambs are, too.  That's good, because I'm a big lamb now!
***
Snowball is still a baby lamb.

Doodle and the Chair, Pt 2

So this chair... It was always around.  And I couldn't figure out why.

Mom and Dad would sit in it sometimes.  I couldn't figure that out, either.  How are you supposed to get in it?

I tried a lot of different ways to get in it.  It wouldn't let me.

I even tried to be nice to it and see if it would let me get in it.  But no.

I was a little wary of it.
***
"MOM!  What are you doing?  Don't sit in that thing!"

But Mom seemed to have no problem with it.

Well, I was going to keep an eye on things, just in case.  I would rescue Mom if she needed it.  But she didn't.
***
That chair still shows up, almost a year later!  I can easily knock it over now, though.  If I have to.

You Eat What You Like, and I'll Eat What I Like

Here's Snowball, learning about eating grass.  He was eating clover and little short pieces of grass.
***
This is me.  I'm digging holes in the big gravel, and kicking up little clumps of dirt.

Sometimes I would put a stone in my mouth.  I never actually swallowed it.  But when I was a baby, I liked rocks.  To suck on.  Like candy!

This is me eating the wrong end of a clump.  I would nibble at the dirt and the roots, and leave the grass!  I'm much better at eating now.  In fact, I'm a champion eater!

Twin Doodles!

In a perfect world...
***
I think it would be wonderful if there were two of me.  More of me to share with the world!  I could spread Doodleness and lambiness twice as fast!

But...there's just one me.  The Dynamic Doodle of McLamby Castle!
***
You have to have a great imagination if you want to even come close to Doodleness!

The Lamby Derby

Hey Dad!  Can we go out and play on the McLamby Racetrack?
***
See...there is this field next to ours.  It had potatoes in it.  Then they were gone.  Then it got flattened and had these ridges which made a perfect racetrack!  Snowball and I liked to play we were race lambs.

You can't really tell it from this picture, but we were running neck and neck!  It was so much fun.  I would run and run, until my tongue would hang out and I was panting.  Snowball's other name is Rocket.  He can go really fast.

Here he is racing to Dad.  For cookies.  It looks like he's just walking, but he isn't.  He is running very, very fast.  And most times, he puts his head down in a point and his nose back.  He's very streamlined.  I, on the other hand, am not a very aerodynamic Doodle.  I'm just a Dynamic Doodle!

But now... the field has had more machines and tractors and things, and Dad says they are planting.  No more racetrack for the McLambies.  For now, anyway.  I guess we'll just eat grass and cookies and run up and down the road.  It's still fun!

The Mudgeons

Sometimes we get so excited about being lambs, we forget the bigger lambs:  The Uncles.  AKA "The Mudgeons".  We don't mean to forget them.  Not really.  It's just, well, er...they can't always keep up with us littler guys.

So, just so everyone knows...The Mudgeons are still the senior members of our flock.

No Uncle Shermy...it isn't true.  Is it?

Snowball Takes a Drink

Baby lambs have to learn everything from scratch, just like baby people.  Most of us come standard with the ability to suck, but even then, not always.  Snowball was a champion bottle baby, though.  He was very focused and concentrated when it was milk bottle time.  I, er, sometimes got too excited and distracted...and I couldn't always find the right end of the bottle.  Or I would drop it.  Accidentally.  Anyway, I learned to drink water first, and we were all worried that Snowball would never figure out how to get water if he was thirsty.  But he did!  FINALLY!  Here's Snowball drinking out of a basin all by himself.  Yay for Snowball!

Doodle and the Chair, Pt 1

There was this chair, see.  And I wasn't sure what a chair was.  I'm still not really sure, except Mom and Dad sit in them, so I guess that's what it's for.  When I was little, it kept taunting me.
***
I wasn't sure I liked it.  On the one hand, I wanted to get up on it.  But on the other, I wanted to knock it over and make sure it left me alone.

And one day, I decided to jump on it.  But it was slippery.  And I fell off.  I think it's because Snowball was distracting me.  And Mom was laughing!  Can you believe it?  I could have fallen from a great height and hurt myself!  Okay, well... but still.

Snowball:  "Hey, Doodle!  Whatcha doin'?"

Chair = 1 / Doodle = 0
