Who is Doodle, you ask? Doodle is one of the four lambs (sheep) who make up the McLamby family. He lives in the Northern Highlands of Scotland, and this is his blog. That's right; life from a lamb's point of view. Doodle, and his brother Snowball, were orphaned lambs and raised on bottles...first in the garage and backyard of their people ("Dad" and "Mom")...then out in the big field with their "Uncles" Rosebud and Shermy, two big Cheviot sheep who are also...er...pet sheep. Sometimes it's just fine for someone to have no other purpose in life but to live and be one of God's creatures. That's Doodle, Snowball, Rosebud, and Shermy. Welcome to their world!

More Doodle Headshots

This is... if you don't mind a little grass.  Because here I am foraging.  I love foraging.  It's a form of eating!

Don't I have lovely markings on my fuzzy face?

Here you see some ear action.

Here you see my little white spot on the top of my head, and my perfectly-formed, aerodynamic ears.

I don't mind being in front of the camera... as long as I don't have to stop what I'm doing!  I'm an obliging Doodle!

The Little Steiff Lamb Comes to Life

Nooo!  It's Baby Snowball.  He just LOOKS like the little Steiff lamb.
Here he is being scritched.  He LOVES being scritched and petted.  And he has very soft, fluffy wool, too.

You can see his very triangular head in these pictures.  And his pointy nose!

As long as Snowball is getting lots of attention, he is a happy lamb.

He gets sleepy eyes when he is being scritched.

Here is the top of his little woolly head!

Doesn't he have soft, fluffy wool?  Just like a cloud!  Or a little Steiff lamb.  Snowball is a nice lamb.  And I, Doodle, and magnanimous enough (Mom said that was the right word) to say so!

Snowball Learns To Concentrate

Snowball doesn't have an eating motto, like I do.  He is a picky eater, and he likes to flit from here to there, just taking a nibble of this and that.

But here he is, concentrating!  He's serious about eating good green things.

And he will poke his pokey nose through the growth to get just the piece he wants.

You can see his soft, "toy lamb" coat of wool, and his little pointy elf feet in these pictures, too!

See him being picky?  And focused!

Snowball is a silly lamb.  And he doesn't concentrate very often.  But I like him.  We're brothers, and best friends!

It's Lamby Naptime

It's time to go to sleep...

We are all full of milk and cookies, and now it is time for resting.

Mom is singing our naptime song to us.  We're listening.  And our eyelids are getting heavy.

Snowball stops what he is doing and goes into nap mode whenever Mom sings the naptime song.

It's nice being lambs who are looked after... and tucked up for our naps!

Just Two Lambs

This is me, hearing something.  My ears are facing the sound.
Oh!  It's Snowball.  He's coming from out of our little narrow place.

But I think something else is still there.  I think it's Dad.
Snowball doesn't seem too interested, so I don't think it's food.

See how white and soft and fluffy Snowball was as a baby?  He has a few markings now, but he's still soft and fluffy.

Mom and Dad sometimes call us bookends.  I wonder why that is?  I don't even know what a bookend is!

We're just two lambs who sometimes don't know what direction we're going in.  I think people are a lot the same, don't you?

Eating and Drinking

Here we are, eating!  It's my favorite thing.  Well, one of them, anyway.  When we were still little, we got kibbles, even though the Uncles did not.  Dad said it was summer, and they had LOTS of good green things to eat, and did not need kibbles.  You will see that neither Uncle is skinny!  But we were little and growing, so we got kibbles, and milk bottles!

We are inside our little concrete shelter.  We came through the little narrow place to get here.  That is why we are eating kibbles and the Uncles are not ~ they are not narrow enough!

And here I am, making sure the water place is filled up and clean.

Dad made sure we had good, clean water every day, and lots of it!
I love eating and drinking!
Bon appetit!

Rosebud and Shermy

Here's Uncle Bud.  He's hiding in the tall grass!
He sees Mom, so he is coming to see if she might have cookies for him.

Rosebud is a sort of funny-shaped sheep.  He's a North Country Cheviot.  But his first year was hard, and we all think his growth was stunted.  He is big around, like a barrel.  But he's got very short legs!  He has a nice face, though.  And usually, a nice, gentle personality.

He was the start of it all, so everyone reveres Uncle Bud!

And then... there's Shermy.  Uncle Shermy came to be a companion for Bud when Bud and Mom and Dad moved to another county in Scotland, and Bud left behind the flock where he was living.

Uncle Shermy is part North Country Cheviot and part Shetland.  Although, he's very tall, and seems more Chevioty than Shetlandy.  And he has bug eyes!

He has little ears.  But they always hear cookie packets.  He has a trick, too!  He will take a cookie from Mom when she is holding it in her teeth!
Sometimes we little guys have to let the big guys have a little floor time!

A Regular Day

It's Snowball, carefully picking and choosing the grass he wants to eat.  He is a picky eater.

See how soft and fluffy his baby wool is?  He was like a stuffed animal!

Uncle Shermy is good at looking ridiculous.  But don't tell him I said that.  He thinks this is his regal look.

Here's me.  I'm eating.  Everything!  Head down and concentrate!

Uncle Rosebud, off doing his own thing.  We all have different favorite types of grass.  He's eating something tall.
It's just a regular day with the McLambies.  Peaceful and plentiful!

Following the Shepherd

Here we are, little lambs, following the shepherd.  That's Dad.  And Mom.  We follow our shepherds, and they never have to come behind us, or chase us, or set dogs on us, because we know them, and we know they will take us to good places, and take care of us.
Did you notice that shepherds in the Bible are leaders, and their sheep follow?  That's a lot different from the shepherding you see mostly today:  a yelling man, barking dogs, quad bikes, and a lot of chasing.  Did you know that sheep can die of fright?  People can, too.
Are you following the Shepherd?  He will lead you to good places!

It's the BAG!

Oh my gosh!  Oh my gosh!  It's the bag.  Do you think we can get it?  I'm sure it's not supposed to be hanging on a nail way up there!

WHAT?  Snowball!  You better get down.  Mom's looking.

But I can almost reach it, says Snowball!

Sigh.  We never could quite reach it.  So, we resorted to looking sad and forlorn, instead.
You see, the bag... it contained our milk bottles, AND cookies!
It's okay, though.  It worked out in the end.  We always got our milk bottles and our cookies.  We were just trying to be independent lambs and get them for ourselves!

The Pause That Refreshes

Daaaad!  The drinking place is empty!  We need watah!
That's Snowball reminding Dad to fill up our drinking trough.  We love water.  I especially love it.  I am a big water drinker.  Slurp, Slurp, Slurp!  YUM!

We are supervising.  It's important that lambies have fresh drinking water.

I especially like it when it comes right up to the top!  When I was little, I couldn't reach it if it went very far down.  Now, I can reach to the bottom of the trough!
