Who is Doodle, you ask? Doodle is one of the four lambs (sheep) who make up the McLamby family. He lives in the Northern Highlands of Scotland, and this is his blog. That's right; life from a lamb's point of view. Doodle, and his brother Snowball, were orphaned lambs and raised on bottles...first in the garage and backyard of their people ("Dad" and "Mom")...then out in the big field with their "Uncles" Rosebud and Shermy, two big Cheviot sheep who are also...er...pet sheep. Sometimes it's just fine for someone to have no other purpose in life but to live and be one of God's creatures. That's Doodle, Snowball, Rosebud, and Shermy. Welcome to their world!

What Can We Say?

Snowball.  He's affectionate.  And he expects everyone else to be, too.

We just have to let him be what he is.  A lamby who gets the chance to be relaxed and happy and not scared... not chased by dogs or handled roughly.  It's a pretty good thing, don't you think?

And, Again...

Yep.  This is what we see all the time.  Snowball and his pointy-headed self heading toward Mom or Dad.  It's okay, though.  Mom and Dad love him.  Good thing.
I'm just grazing... (says Snowball)

That didn't last long!  He's up and looking for scritches.  Again.

Now he has his happy face on.

Sometimes, the baby of the family needs lots of reassurance.  Snowball gets plenty, that's for sure!

He's Baaack....

Yep.  Snowball is monopolizing Dad again.
Now scritch me this way, says he.

And now scritch me that way, says he.
You will notice my little head trying to poke in there and get some attention.  Nope.  I didn't succeed.  Can you believe it?

Look at him!  He's shameless!

Hey Dad!  Did you forget about me?  Here I am!
Do you think it's true that the baby in the family is spoiled?

Why We Like Our Shepherds

GOOD shepherds are meant to be followed.  That is what we do with Mom and Dad.  They lead, and we follow.  'Cause we always know they will take care of us and not hurt us.

It's not like that for most of us sheep.  'Specially the ones from big farms.  They don't get to follow their shepherds.  They get chased by dogs and quad bikes.  Did you know a sheep can die of fright?  Did you know a dog is just a dog to a person, but most dogs (unless they are watch dogs there to protect us) are animals of prey to sheep?
And lots of times, once the dogs and men have chased the sheep where they want them, they manhandle them quite roughly.  This is why most sheep now are afraid of most people.  Don't you think it's sad?  We do.

We're blessed, and glad.  We follow our shepherd.  Do you follow your Shepherd?

A Doodle-ish Day

It's a Doodle-ish Day.  Spending time with Mom and Dad.  Wandering around, doing stuff.
We like to just mill around on warm summer days.  Eating a little, playing a little, running and jumping a little.  See my hat?  I'm wearing a pointy piece of straw right on top of my head!

And sometimes we like to get up as close as we can to our people.  Eye contact!  We might get cookies, or hugs.

Of course, there are always scritches, as Snowball will tell you.

A Doodle-ish Day is the happiest day you can have!  I hope you have one soon!

What's This?

Look!  Here we are running towards Mom and Dad.  And who is that in the front???
It's Uncle Bud!

You will see my ears are hindering me a bit from gaining on him.  And look!  Who is that in the back??
It's Snowball!  He is the last one in!  Has the earth tilted?

That ol' Rosebud.  He's still got it in him!  Yes, he can still kick up his heels like the rest of us!

Doodle's Turn

See?  What did I tell you?  There's Snowball, getting MORE scritches.

He says he is irresistible.  Mom and Dad must think he is right!

It's a good thing he is so soft and cuddly, since he is expecting constant scritching.

But I think it's MY turn now, so here I come.

I'm here, Mom!  Ready for my scritching!

Hey Mom!  I'm waiting!

I am always afraid Mom and Dad don't see me, so I usually get as close in as I can.  Just in case.  And you will notice the white ear in the lower right corner?  Snowball never went very far!  Never mind his ear, though.  I'm showing my ears in their best light!

A Doodle Assortment

Here we all are, in our various ways.  A little Doodle Assortment for your enjoyment!  Above we see Uncle Rosebud very much acting his part of Elder Statesman.
And below, we have Uncle Shermy, doing what he does best:  looking deep into your eyes with his big bug eyes!

Here I come:  Doodle to the rescue!  Or probably, Doodle coming for cookies!

And last... Snowball receiving his daily scritches from Dad.  He will turn right around and ask Mom for scritches when Dad has had enough!

And there you have a summary look at the happy McLambies!

Snowball is Nettled

Hey kid!  You'll poke your eye out!
Here we see Snowball having more nettle-eating practice.  He's actually standing up in all those nettles, even though he looks like he is lying down.  See how tall the nettles and grasses are?

Here he is, doing a little taste-testing.  That's a very Snowball thing to do.

Moving on to some different nettles.  If it were me, I'd eat my way to the different nettles!

Chomp.  Chomp.  Chomp.  He must have found nettles he likes.

Munch.  Munch.  Munch.  A little grass in between doesn't hurt, either.

Hey kid!  I said, you'll poke your eye out!  Lemme show you how to eat nettles properly, so there's no danger.

Uncle Shermy takes a moment to lower himself to our level and show us proper nettle-eating techniques.  Thanks, Uncle Shermy!
You'll be happy to know, Snowball is now probably the best nettle-eater of us all!

Snowball the Hammy Lamby

Snowball is a goofball.  He is very silly and hammy.  As you will see...

Look right.

Look left.

(heh heh heh)

Run for it!

Snowball likes to play.  A lot.  And he wants lots of attention.  From everybody.  All the time.  This does not always work out well for him.  Fortunately, he is the fastest runner of us all!

Quality Time

Hey!  What's going on over there?
It's me, Doodle, getting special scritches from Dad.  I like being singled out!

Oh no.  But here comes Snowball.  He wants to be scritched, too.  He always wants to horn in, no matter what is going on.

Okay, so Dad has to scritch him, too.

But sometimes... a Doodle wants a little quality time just with Dad or Mom.  ALONE!  Maybe next time...
