Who is Doodle, you ask? Doodle is one of the four lambs (sheep) who make up the McLamby family. He lives in the Northern Highlands of Scotland, and this is his blog. That's right; life from a lamb's point of view. Doodle, and his brother Snowball, were orphaned lambs and raised on bottles...first in the garage and backyard of their people ("Dad" and "Mom")...then out in the big field with their "Uncles" Rosebud and Shermy, two big Cheviot sheep who are also...er...pet sheep. Sometimes it's just fine for someone to have no other purpose in life but to live and be one of God's creatures. That's Doodle, Snowball, Rosebud, and Shermy. Welcome to their world!

Getting to Work

We know what we're about, us lambs.  And we know what a road's for, too!  'Specially when Mom's at one end and Dad's at the other.

Fence Faces

Mostly, we are on the same side of the fence as Mom and Dad.  But sometimes we're not.  See Uncle Shermy watching carefully?  And Uncle Bud pretending not to care?
Here is Snowball, standing attentively.  And bending my ear -- literally!

I must have been standing in a hole, because I, Doodle, am bigger than Snowball.  I rarely take such a backseat as this.

It makes me feel rather indignant.  And just look at Snowball.  He's saying, "Talk to the ear!"

What is Uncle Shermy saying about it all?  Or Uncle Rosebud?

Shermy says:  KIDS!
Rosebud says:  UGH!

Honorable Weisheng Rosebud

Uncle Rosebud wants to set a few things straight.  He says:  The Year of the Sheep is not just about Shermy!  It is about all us sheeps, everywhere.
Uncle Rosebud's Chinese name is Honorable Weisheng Rosebud, which means Greatness is Born.
Honorable Weisheng Rosebud say:
He who throws dirt is losing ground.

Mr Doodle Head

Here we see me, Doodle.  I'm 'sploring, and poking my head into places.
Snowball gets called the Poky-Nosed Lamb because he has a pointy little nose and he pokes, pokes, pokes with it.  But I am good, too.  I have a big head and I bash with it!

Here I am pushing my head through a wire fence.  I had to do some finagling to get my ears through.

Snowball is surprised at my feat!

Snowball:  You look kinda uncomfortable, Doodle.

Doodle:  I'm fine.  Leave me alone!  Sigh...

Chun Chao Shermy

Uncle Shermy really likes the idea of a whole year being dedicated to him.  We are having trouble explaining that it's not JUST him.
He has decided to have a Chinese name:  Chun Chao Shermy.  He says it means Excellent Shermy Born in the Spring.

We've tried to explain to him that he cannot turn our little trailer house into his own temple.  Shermy gets these ideas sometimes.

Chun Chao Shermy say:
A very attractive person has a message for you!

Looking for Scritches

Here we see me, coming toward you.  I'm looking for something...

And here we see my happy face and happy tail!  I always put my tail straight out when I'm happy!

This is me, looking at you.  Don't you want to pet my little Doodle head?  Mom says I have a big head.  I'm not sure what she means.

I like spending time with family... and getting all the attention!

Thoughtful Loafing

Here we see me, Doodle, browsing around.  You never know what good thing you will find if you're watchful!
And this is the big and little of it.  Snowball and Uncle Bud.  They're just milling about, too.

See us looking expectantly?  We don't know why.  But it usually pays to look expectantly, so we do it.

Here we see Snowball going to see if he can stir things up a bit.

Uncle Shermy is off in the clouds.  Daydreaming.  I'm using my time wisely:  scratching my woolly self on the gate!

I guess every minute of the day can't be filled with excitement and interesting things and cookies.  So, we have learned to be content, just being lambs.

Snowball's Weather

Snowball says, what's all this he's hearing about severe winter weather?  He says, he's a Snowball, and it's lovely.
Soft and fluffy and friendly and sweet.

Snowball doesn't really understand why people don't like snowballs.

Here we see Snowball, contemplating.  He hopes everyone's dislike of snowbally weather isn't on account of him!

Gung Hay Fat Choy :: Best Wishes and Congratulations. Have a Prosperous and Good Year!

Happy Chinese New Year :: Year of the Sheep!
"Sheeps are creative, elegant, kind, tender, and sensitive."

Doodle wanted to be a poster lamb for the Year of the Sheep, but they don't know about him in China... yet.

The McLambies say this is gonna be THEIR year.
Mom and Dad kinda thought every year was already their year.  Sigh...

Doodle and the Boarding House Manners

It's not that my eyes are bigger than my tummy.  No, because my tummy is quickly catching up with my eyes!  I just like to eat, is all.  Notice my determined stance:  Doodle will not be dissuaded!
Uncle Rosebud has been defeated, er, does not seem very impressed with my amazing eating acumen.

I can get into the smallest corner of any dinner plate and make sure no little morsel is ever wasted.

And when I'm done...

I go looking for more!
It takes a lot to keep this Doodle in top fighting condition.  And I'm willing to fight for it, too!

The Wisdom of Double Happiness Rosebud

Uncle Bud has something to say:
He says that Chinese New Year is coming this week!  And, that it has been deemed the Year of the Sheep / Goat.  He says the "goat" part is a mistake.  It is the Year of the Sheep.  He wants everyone to remember that.  And to be respectful to all the sheep in the world.
Double Happiness Rosebud has spoken.

This was us at dinner time.  The table was pretty small.  Mom decided overcrowding wasn't good for us, and some of us (Snowball) were not getting their fair share.  So, she convinced Dad that Snowball and I should eat outside the field, in our own special bowls!  Mine is red.  Snowball's is blue.  We have our own special eating places.  And the Uncles have a new silver trough.  Everyone is happy now!

McLamby Valentine Poem

Doodle is cute...

Rosebud is true...

Shermy is silly...

And Snowball is, too!

The McLambies all say,
please don't misconstrue:
to each one of YOU!

We Got Out!

We didn't have to wait THAT long.  We got out.  Here we see Dad taking us down the lane for a walk.  And for eating the yummy grass on the banks.  And we see him giving me a cookie!
Now here's Dad petting me on my head.
Scritch. Scritch. Scritch.

Uncle Shermy is hoping if he smiles for Mom's camera, she will reward him with a cookie.

Uncle Rosebud is just happy to wander around and eat the stuff on the other side of the fence, where, as everyone knows, it is greener.

Snowball is asking for...and getting...a cookie.  Look at his funny V-Neck sweater he is wearing!

Mom and Dad take us out of our field every day.  Sometimes it is both Mom and Dad.  Sometimes it is just Mom.  Sometimes it is just Dad.  Once in awhile, it is after dark.  But they still come... every single day.  It's nice having someone who cares!

Thursday, February 12, 2015

Here we are, waiting.  Mom and Dad are coming to take us out.  At least, we think they are.  Are they?  We hope they are.  What are they doing?  We'd better keep an eye on them!
Notice us wearing out sticking-out-sideways ears.  We are watching intently.

Will we get out?  Will we get cookies and kibbles and playtime?  Tune in tomorrow...

Doodle the Crumb Catcher

I like to be thorough.  Why waste food?  I am the daily Crumb Catcher.  When everyone has eaten, I come around behind and make sure there are no kibble crumbs left in any troughs or bowls.  And it's even easier now that the Uncles have a nice, shiny metal trough instead of the old wooden one.  I like being fastidious this way.  You're welcome!

Eating Out

We have lots of favorite eating spots.  And we're regulars!  Here we see Snowball at a tall grass smorgasbord.
We eat out every day.  We eat in, too.  Uncle Shermy is an expert at taking just what he touches!

This is me, Doodle, and Snowball.  We're really "tucking in" now.

It's nice to have variety in your diet.  We eat lots of different green things, and hay, and kibbles, and cookies, and sometimes other treats like carrots or cabbage.  We do NOT, however, like Brussels sprouts!
