Who is Doodle, you ask? Doodle is one of the four lambs (sheep) who make up the McLamby family. He lives in the Northern Highlands of Scotland, and this is his blog. That's right; life from a lamb's point of view. Doodle, and his brother Snowball, were orphaned lambs and raised on bottles...first in the garage and backyard of their people ("Dad" and "Mom")...then out in the big field with their "Uncles" Rosebud and Shermy, two big Cheviot sheep who are also...er...pet sheep. Sometimes it's just fine for someone to have no other purpose in life but to live and be one of God's creatures. That's Doodle, Snowball, Rosebud, and Shermy. Welcome to their world!

Heads and Tails

Here we are with our heads down. And our tails up! I know you think we only ever put our tails up for one thing. Er, you know. But that's not so!
Snowball has his tail up, too. His tail makes an "L" shape when it is up. He always has to be different.

Lambs use their tails for talking, like other animals. Our tails go up when we're happy! If someone is talking to us sweetly, or we're getting a cookie, or Mom or Dad is rubbing our chest or legs or tummy, our tails go up! Snowball's tail even goes waggy. I have a nice big tail like a beaver, and when I am happy, it goes up like a flag!
Lambs need their tails. Humans have taken it upon themselves to "dock" our tails. They think it makes life easier for everybody. It doesn't. Okay, maybe you can take a LITTLE bit off our tails when we're teeny tiny. But that's all. We need our tails to keep us clean and modest. Think of flies! We don't like bugs, and our tails help us ward them off from places a bug might like to land.
When we were babies, Mom was there when our tails were being docked. She made sure they were not too short. Uncle Shermy lucked out and has a proper tail. Poor Uncle Rosebud had his tail docked way too short.

The Senator Has Chicken Legs

Dad thinks Uncle Shermy has chicken legs. I'm not sure what he means by that.

Of course, we know Uncle Shermy has a Roman nose, and now we sometimes call him The Senator! HA!

I guess maybe Uncle Shermy kinda sorta has knock-knees. Is that what Dad means about "chicken legs"?

Poor Uncle Shermy. And really, he's a pretty nice guy. Mostly, he's mild-mannered. Except when he's had just about enough of me or Snowball, and then he uses his big hard head, Roman nose and all, and bashes us. I bash back. Snowball is our elfin lamb, and he's able to jump out of the way. But aside from that, Uncle Shermy is pretty nice, really. Mostly.

Snowball Props Up a Building

Here we see Snowball, thinking to himself that the building looks a little unsteady.
He thinks maybe he will be of service if he just props it up a little.

And sometimes, he pushes a little harder, just to make sure.

Here he is, leaning into it, and listening for any structural anomalies.

Snowball likes to be the foreman sometimes.

That Snowball...he's some lamb!

It is just possible that he had an itch.

But I don't think so.

The Rest of Us Get in the Act

Well, the rest of us McLambies couldn't let Uncle Shermy have all the attention.
Notice who's front and center!
Also notice who is consistently there, acting dignified (Uncle Rosebud).

I like to make sure Mom sees me.

I'm pretty sure every cookie is supposed to be for me. Uncle Rosebud does not agree, apparently. Maybe Mom doesn't see him!

Don't worry. Mom sees him. Uncle Rosebud is the "most special lamb" of the whole family. I guess 'cause he's the oldest. 'Cause everyone knows I'm the "Doodlest"!

Shermy and Mom Have a Portrait

Here we see Mom and Uncle Shermy posing for the camera. They had their portrait made! Mom says I don't stand still long enough to have mine done. I have to decide if I WANT one. If I do, I'll stand still, too.

Doodle is an Expert Lamb

Here we see me and Snowball, racing to see who can get the best grass the fastest. It's usually me.
Snowball has too short an attention span. Here he is, jumping and running off to play. Not me. I'm serious about my grass eating.

Here I am, focusing. And turning on a dime. Okay, maybe a quarter.

My ability to hunt and eat the best grass and green growing stuff has made me the Doodle I am today!

I like being a Doodle. I'm just exactly right for it!

Bulking Up

Here we see me, Doodle, stepping up to the green smorgasbord. We all like walking along the road edge where the food is at a table which is just the right height!
I'm leaning into it.  We're busy bulking up.  We McLambies like to bulk up all year round.  This is how we stay healthy and strong!

Here we see Uncle Bud and Uncle Shermy.  They're busy keeping healthy and strong, too!  If we don't eat a good diet, we won't have nice, fluffy wool coats, and we might get something wrong with us.  When I was teeny, like about 3 days old, I got very sick and almost died.  I'm not letting that happen again, if I can help it!

Even Snowball is leaning into it!  The grass must be especially yummy for him to get this serious.  A lot of time, he flits around like a moth, from one leaf to another, one blade of grass here, another blade over there.  Sheesh!

So...there's another McLamby secret. Eat plenty of good green stuff so your hair will look nice!

I'm the Baby

Here we see Snowball.  He says, "I'm the baby...and proud of it!" No matter how big Snowball gets, he will always be the baby.  In fact, his nickname, besides Rocket, is Baby. Mom and Dad says he's "sweet".
Personally, as a Doodle, I don't like all that mushy stuff.  Snowball can be the baby, and I'll be the Monster!

Snowball Likes Big Salads

Here we see me and Snowball, grazing along the edge where the grassy part meets the woody part. Yummy!
And here we see Snowball hunting for big leafy green things.

He found some!

Chomp chomp chomp! Snowball eats lots of big green leafy things.
And enjoys them!

If you want to be healthy and strong like Snowball, don't forget to eat your leafy greens!

Snowball Goes Berry Picking

Snowball is the pickiest eater of all of us. He only eats "certain" green things. He won't eat anything yellow. He sometimes drops a cookie and takes the next one instead. He likes to be first at the hay rack. He also likes to have Dad hold his bowl up at head-height for him while he's eating kibbles. He only likes "certain" kibbles and not others. He's kinda spoiled. And just look at him!
He's eating leaves and dried up berries off the bramble bush. Or is it raspberries? I don't know. I'm just a Doodle.

Which is nowhere near as picky as being a Snowball!

We Have a Shepherdess

Well, it's just Mom.  But she's a girl, so that makes her a shepherdess.  Mom (and Dad) take us for walks and to go 'sploring and things.  They lead us to good grass and they fill our water pail.  And let's not forget the cookies!
Sometimes it's probably boring for Mom, our Shepherdess, to stand around while we eat stuff all the time.  But Dad says it's "lamb therapy."  I'm not sure what that means.

But they keep coming every day to see us and feed us and pet us and give us cookies, so lamb therapy must be a good thing, right?
And our Shepherdess does not come after us with a broom or a stick, either!  Or worse yet... a dog.  Oh, the horror!  To us, a dog looks like a wolf.  Remember that when you see sheep being rounded up and herded by a dog.  They all run together in a bunch like that 'cause they're scared.  Mom and Dad make sure we are never scared.  It's good having that kind of shepherd.  Sorta like THE Shepherd, a little tiny bit.

Doodle Dots

Here we see me, Doodle, showing you my perfectly formed lamb head, complete with polka dots! Note the unique and lovely array of dots across my nose.  I have dots on my ears, too!  And a white fuzzy patch on the very top of my hard head.
And here I am showing you the amazing combination of my white, woolly body and my dark, polka-dotted head.  Pretty stunning, isn't it?

All sheep are very different and unique.  No two of us look exactly alike or act exactly alike.  We all have individual personalities and appearances, made especially by God!
(Some of us are more unique than others...)

The Unbearable Cuteness of Lambs

Could you say NO to this?
Go ahead. Tell this face you have no cookies to spare.
We didn't think you could!
Snowball...he's our ace in the hole!

Time for Uncles

Here we see Uncle Rosebud...chomp chomp chomping on some of our favorite lamb food.
And here we see Uncle Shermy...doing the same thing!

It LOOKS like all we do is eat.  But we do other stuff, too.  Like go 'sploring, and run and jump and get silly, and eat other stuff, and beg for cookies, and go for walks, and lie down and ruminate, and poke around looking for stuff, and watch things... we're actually very busy lambs.  And we're friends with other animals, too...like bunnies and birds and deer.
And then there are the times when we sit around and play cards...

See Snowball taking a big mouthful of yummy green stuff!
See what Mom sees when she looks straight down?

And she sees this, too!

And over there is Dad.

Now she sees a Doodle!

And Snowball again.

And the Daily Double Bonus: Doodle AND Snowball!

You should keep your head up.  But sometimes you should look down!

Doodle Goes 'Sploring

I'm off into the wilds! If I find anything good, I probably won't let you know, because I'll probably want it all for myself.
Don't try to follow me!  This is a One-Doodle expedition.

Here I come back.

I blazed a trail all by myself!  This is noteworthy, because Mom says a lot of the time, I'm a Scaredy-Doodle.  This proves I'm not!  HA!

And look at my good sense of direction.  I came right back to the post where I started.

I think the Intrepid Doodle deserves a bite to eat, don't you?

Ahhh...yummy green grass.  If I had found any of that on my 'sploring trip, I wouldn't have been back so soon!
