Who is Doodle, you ask? Doodle is one of the four lambs (sheep) who make up the McLamby family. He lives in the Northern Highlands of Scotland, and this is his blog. That's right; life from a lamb's point of view. Doodle, and his brother Snowball, were orphaned lambs and raised on bottles...first in the garage and backyard of their people ("Dad" and "Mom")...then out in the big field with their "Uncles" Rosebud and Shermy, two big Cheviot sheep who are also...er...pet sheep. Sometimes it's just fine for someone to have no other purpose in life but to live and be one of God's creatures. That's Doodle, Snowball, Rosebud, and Shermy. Welcome to their world!

The On Again Off Again Doodle

Here we see me, Doodle. I'm eating along the edge of the lane. I think Mom might be calling me, but I'm not going because I'm busy eating. I've turned my ears off.
Hey! Here's Snowball, and he's running straight for Mom! I kinda am looking... and listening.

Hey! I think Snowball got something good. I'm going to check it out.

Hey! Mom! Hey, wait! My ears are turned on now. I didn't hear you before. Really, I didn't! Hey, wait for me!

It's Shermy Again

Here we see Shermy. I guess because Uncle Shermy has been such a good lamb all through the "troubles".
He's thinking. And eating. Uncle Shermy loves nettles. And thistles. He doesn't usually eat growing ones, but sometimes he does. He loves to eat dying ones, or ones Dad has cut down. They are like "Shermy Potato Chips".

See him enjoying a thistle?

Sometimes it's just good to relax and have a snack.
You can even do your best thinking like that!

Doodle and Co Remember

I might be runnin' to the picnic table, ready to chomp chomp chomp... but we McLambies are also remembering, it's:

We live on the other side of the sea, but our hearts follow Mom's, and her heart is in America today.

The Main Thing

Here's Uncle Bud. This was before his head got bashed by Snowball the Monster.
Here's Snowball the Monster, before he turned into one.

This is me...well, mostly it's my ear.

Here's Shermy again.

And this is a not-very-flattering view (thanks a lot, Mom) of Snowball and me, grazing on the bank.

We're not all together anymore. It's sad. But the main thing is, we're all more peaceful now, and we're grazing along happily. Sometimes, you have to just take what life gives you and make the best of it.

Poor Uncle Shermy. He's kinda getting left out of stuff lately.
What a good Shermy he is.
Shermy has been a good lamb through all of the McLamby trauma. (Don't forget I, Doodle, have also been a good lamb.) He sticks by Rosebud, and he is quiet and not making a fuss. Mostly.
The other day, when Mom and Dad brought the Uncles back from the field that they are now going back TO, Uncle Shermy showed up wearing a sword! It was big, too. It made me think. I think maybe he was wearing it so Snowball would get the hint. Mom says it was only a big piece of a bramble bush, but it looked like a sidearm to me. He wore it all the first night they were back, too. Does that sound like a bramble to you? NOPE. It was a sword. And we BEHAVED!

There's Trouble In Lamby City

Here we see us. All together. Possibly for the last time.
See...I'm not sure what really happened. I get confused sometimes. And scared. Then I don't know which way I am supposed to go.
That's a line-up photo:  Me (Doodle), Snowball, Rosebud, Shermy.  Only, Snowball and I are wearing numbers. We've been "booked". I don't know what that means, either. It can't be too bad 'cause we still get cookies and scritches.
Snowball seems to have had a strange personality change. No one knows why. All of a sudden, now, whenever he sees Rosebud, he goes berserk. He turns into Rambo and tries to get him. I mean, seriously GET HIM. He has even drawn blood! Then we all get nuts. And Rosebud is a target, and no one knows why.
Poor old Uncle Bud.
Shermy sticks by him. I kinda do, but I'm not sure where I'm supposed to be.
So, Mom and Dad say we're being separated. For good. Snowball says GOOD. I'm not sure. Rosebud says GOOD, too.
We were separated for two days, and then Mom and Dad built a fence through the middle of our field, and divided everything up. The plan was we would have separate apartments but still all come out every day together. Snowball put the NIX on that. He won't have it. Rosebud gets no peace when Snowball is around. And Snowball turns into a REAL MONSTER!
So, Snowball and I are going to live together in one field, and Rosebud and Shermy are going to live together in another field, and there are trees and two houses in between, so we can't see each other. It's kinda sad. But Snowball is making us, so I guess that's what we have to do.
I'm not sure, but I think a new hierarchy has been established in our little flock (now TWO little flocks of TWO), and Rosebud is pretty much completely out. And Mom will NOT have that. She's going out of her way to make sure Rosebud is okay. So I guess I will go out of my way to be a good Doodle and make sure Mom is okay.
I think I'll still reminisce about when we were littler and everyone was together, though...if that's okay with you.

Now We Are Two!

Snowball and Doodle are two years old today!

When we were born, we had no mommies. Mom and Dad never were able to find out if it was because our mommies died, or they rejected us, or we were third lambs and they couldn't care for us. We were put in a tiny pen with a several other babies, most of which were very sick. Then, Mom and Dad came and adopted us! Everyone calls us "orphan lambs" but we think we did okay with our Mom and Dad! We are big two year olds today!
Thanks be to God for happy, healthy sheep!
Holy St Mamas, please keep watching over our flock!

HAY! It's a Smorgasbord!

This is our first hay rack, when Mom and Dad first decided we should have hay every day.  It's homemade. We liked it!
Uncle Shermy is investigating whether we can eat from the side.  We can!

I'm eating from the side, too! Doodle-style.

What? Doesn't eating from the side mean standing sideways?

Nobody ever explains anything to me.
Whaddya mean I look like a hayseed?
What does THAT mean?

And...here we see Snowball. Being different, as usual.

Strangely enough, Snowball turns out to be the best hay-eater of us all!
Don't you love going to a smorgasbord?

What's Wrong With This Picture?

Here we see Snowball, enjoying a private dining room.
And here we see the rest of us...

...at the boarding house table. SIGH.
(Okay, it doesn't stay like this, but still...)

Snowball Holds Kinda Still for Photos

Yep, it's Snowball again. He is still hanging out with his buddy. And he's even letting Mom get a few photos of him. Personally, I avoid the paparazzi whenever possible. They're always after me for close-ups, but I always turn my head. I'm a smart Doodle.
Snowball is more likely to stand still when Dad or Mom is scritching him, too.  Even I like scritches!

And here we see Snowball doing his best I'm-a-Teddy-Bear-with-big-ears look.

Don't you wish you had a Snowball like ours?

Snowball Has a Buddy

Here we see Snowball and Dad. Snowball is a very friendly lamb, and he likes lots of cuddles.
He also likes to put his face right in your face. When he does that to me, I just head-butt him out of the way. Mom and Dad don't do this, though. They seem to like it!

I keep hearing Mom and Dad say Snowball is cute. Cuter than me? I don't think so! But, I guess if Snowball wants to be all snuggly, it's okay.

Good thing he doesn't have bad breath!
Whaddya mean you'd rather have a kiss from Snowball than Doodle??? Is that a dig about my grass breath?

Stocky Doodle

Here we see me, showing you how big and stocky I'm getting. I'm the exact opposite of Snowball. He's like a little elfin deer, all tall and thin and fast. I'm like a...what am I like, Mom?
You're like a big, strong defensive tackle. Which does NOT mean you should be practicing your tackles on me!

Big and strong, That's me!
But inside, I'm still a Baby Doodle.
Don't tell anyone, or I'll tackle you!

Happy May Day!

Snowball says, enjoy the flowers. He is!
Don't forget to give someone some flowers today. Hang a secret basket on a door!
